Orlando Pirates have become the new cup kings in recent years as they have dominated domestic competitions in the last three-and-a-half years.
Over that period, the Buccaneers have competed in 11 cup competitions and won seven, including two in three months, already this season.
Pirates claimed the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 back-to-back in 2022-23 and 2023-24 before adding last season’s MTN8, to make it five trophies under former coach Jose Riveiro.
Riveiro left as a popular figure and Pirates fans thought replacing him would be a hard act but what they have witnessed under Abdeslam Ouaddou is not what they imagined.

The Moroccan has elevated them and in just three months, they have two trophies while they are genuinely dreaming of a first PSL title since 2012 and few will bet against them sweeping all the domestic cups.
Pirates started by winning the MTN8 in September, beating Stellenbosch FC 3-0, in extra time when they turned on the style. That victory earned them R10 million and there was more coming in three months’ time.
The Soweto giants qualified for the Carling Knockout final which they played against Marumo Gallants on Saturday and while they had a poor record in the competition, they ended that hoodoo.
How much have Pirates pocketed so far?

Gallants frustrated them, taking the game to extra time but Pirates’ quality finally told in the end as Relebohile Mofokeng’s goal settled the contest.
Winning the Carling Knockout earned Pirates R6.85 million, taking their total in three months to R16.85 million.
Ouaddou’s team have a chance to win even more as the Nedbank Cup is still to come and it has a winners’ prize of R7 million.
Pirates can put the icing on the cake by winning the biggest trophy in South African football next May, if they manage to claim the PSL title, which comes with a bumper cheque of R20 million.
