Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has disclosed that he discovered his fate before even stepping into a crucial meeting with club management.
The Mzimkhulu-born tactician, along with his assistants Wendell Robinson and Romain Folz, was relieved of his duties this week following a poor start to the season.
As he made his way to Chloorkop for the meeting, Mngqithi received the shocking news from “someone” that the club had already appointed Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso as his replacement.
MNGQITHI EXPLAINS HOW HE LEARNT ABOUT HIS SACKING
“I would be lying if I said I knew [that I was leaving the club]; I just got a message from someone when I was going into a meeting yesterday [Tuesday] with the leadership of the club,” Mngqithi said on MSW.
“Somebody hinted that there was going to be an announcement. Yesterday, fortunately, we were off, and we had to attend the meeting with the leadership. And that’s when the whole story came out, but fortunately, someone sent me a message and asked if it was true, and then I started to know what this meeting would be about.
“I cannot fault anyone for that because probably when I got the job, someone, somewhere, was still the coach, and the negotiations were going on behind. That’s the name of the game, that’s being proactive in ensuring there is no gap in between. I cannot now talk ill about them. It’s normal in football.”
