Modiba wary of Pirates threat – ‘It is always a fight, they want PSL crown so bad’

Versatile Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba is anticipating what he terms as an interesting game against Orlando Pirates on Saturday at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium from 19h30 SAT.

The reigning Premier Soccer champions Masandawana are hunting their eighth consecutive crown. However, they are facing very stiff competition from the Sea Robbers who are reaping from their consistency in terms of squad and technical team consistencies.

In the ongoing campaign, Sundowns have 39 points after winning 13 games and losing just once from the 14 outings. Pirates, who are coached by Jose Riveiro, are hot on their heels having won 11 out of the 13 games played. As a result, they have accumulated 33 points.

It explains why the South Africa international believes the game this weekend will not be easy for either team.

Sundowns up for it and prepared – Modiba

“It’s always a fight against Pirates, I think right now they really want to win the league so bad, and obviously for us, we want to do well in that space, so it will be a very interesting game,” the 29-year-old stated.

“It was sold out in I don’t know how many days, or hours, so you can even feel the vibe heading into the game on Saturday, I think we’re up for it, we’re prepared, and we’ll be able to compete and hopefully win the game.

“At the end of the day, it’s three points [available] from each and every team but that one I think it will be an interesting game.”
