Orlando Pirates were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Siwelele FC in a tense Premier Soccer League encounter at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, Afrik Foot reports.
This leaves the Buccaneers with mixed feelings after a game of missed opportunities and late drama.
The home side began the match with confidence but found themselves on the back foot early as Siwelele applied pressure and defended resolutely. The visitors struck first, taking a 1-0 lead before halftime, and tested Pirates’ patience and attacking rhythm throughout the first 45 minutes.

Orlando Pirates battle back after halftime
Orlando Pirates struggled to convert early chances in the opening half. Mbatha’s long-range effort in stoppage time forced a sharp save from Goss, while Moremi’s follow-up attempt went wide.
Mofokeng and Appollis also had moments to level the score, with Mofokeng pushing a shot off target and Appollis’ attempt from outside the penalty area failing to trouble the goalkeeper.
A near-header from Mbuthuma almost sneaked into the top corner, but Goss was alert to punch it away, leaving the Buccaneers trailing 0-1 at the break.
The second half saw Pirates return with increased urgency. Just seven minutes after the restart, Moremi found the net with a well-placed strike to bring the hosts level. The goal injected new energy into the team, who began pressing Siwelele with more intensity.

Mofokeng made several dangerous runs into the box, while Appollis tried to create opportunities from set-pieces, forcing Goss to make key saves.
Substitute Patrick Maswanganyi also made an immediate impact after coming on for Appollis, linking up well with Mofokeng for a header that was expertly kept out by Siwelele’s defence.

The Buccaneers continued to dominate possession and looked for a winner late into the match, creating chances from Moremi’s crosses, Deon Hotto’s free kick, and Makgopa’s overhead attempt, but the visitors held firm to secure a point.
Despite the draw, Orlando Pirates showed character to respond after going behind, keeping themselves in contention at the top of the PSL table.
Siwelele FC, meanwhile, can take pride in their disciplined performance, earning a well-deserved point away from home against one of the league’s strongest sides.
The Buccaneers will now look to regroup and build on this performance as they aim to turn their home advantage into victories in upcoming PSL fixtures, while Siwelele will hope to continue their competitive form in the league.
