Pitso Mosimane: Date, time for new Bafana coach’s unveiling revealed

Reports indicate that Pitso Mosimane is on the verge of being reappointed as the head coach of the South African national team, Bafana Bafana.

Prominent sports journalist Robert Marawa has fueled speculation with a significant update, suggesting that an official announcement is imminent. According to Marawa, Mosimane will be formally unveiled as the new coach on Tuesday at noon.

“Coach Pitso Mosimane to finally and officially be named the national team coach of Bafana Bafana at 12h00 tomorrow!!” Marawa stated in a social media post.

Should the appointment be confirmed, it would conclude weeks of uncertainty surrounding the coaching position and mark Mosimane’s return to a role he previously held from 2010 to 2012. His first tenure concluded after the team failed to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mosimane returns after decorated coaching stint

However, Mosimane’s career has since reached new heights. The 62-year-old has established himself as one of Africa’s most accomplished coaches, winning the CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016 and later securing the prestigious title twice more with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Recent reports suggest that the South African Football Association (SAFA) has favoured Mosimane to succeed Hugo Broos, bringing a far more experienced and decorated tactician back into the national setup.

The timing of this potential appointment is crucial, as South Africa is still celebrating a landmark achievement in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they reached the knockout stages for the first time under Broos’s leadership.
