Pitso Mosimane has opted for the tried and tested in his Bafana Bafana starting XI against Guinea.

Bafana Bafana are set to play Guinea in Group D of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at Orlando Stadium and familiar faces have made the starting lineup.

Mosimane, took over from Hugo Broos who left South Africa after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has retained the men the Belgian relied on with Ronwen Williams in goal, Aubrey Modiba at left-back and Kamogelo Sebelebele at right-back.

In central defence, Olwethu Makhanya will partner Ime Okon while in midfield, Teboho Mokoena and Sphephelo Sithole will play alongside each other.

Relebohile Mofokeng gets the nod at No.10 with Thapelo Maseko and Oswin Appollis playing on the wings as Iqraam Rayners leads the line.

‘Jingles’ missed some of the key players owing to injuries. Mbekezeli Mbokazi is working on his fitness, alongside Thalente Mbatha and Khuliso Mudau. Lebohang Maboe is also out alongside Bradley Cross.

Who starts against Guinea?

It is critical for Bafana Bafana to get maximum points to stand a chance of joining co-hosts Kenya for the 2027 AFCON. Eritrea are the other team in the pool.

“We need a cup. We haven’t won it for how long? It’s too long, right? So, we need a cup. I want to win a cup. I’m not saying I’m going to win it, I want to win it. And that’s why I’m here,” he opened up.

“You can’t win the cup when you don’t qualify. I mean, you know the levels and the steps that you need to do to get to win the cup. But yeah, that’s the objective, is to try and win a cup,” he added.
