Kaizer Chiefs are seemingly on the right path as they work on getting back to the summit of the South African footballing scene.

Currently, the Glamour Boys are on 30 points on the PSL table, that have placed them second, just two points behind the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Soweto giants are also in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, hoping to make it out of the pool that has some top dogs like Zamalek, Al Masry, and ZESCO United. The Chiefs are hoping to go all the way and successfully defend their Nedbank Cup.

All these have been made possible by the youngsters who have been promoted from the junior team, according to the Amakhosi Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr.

Chiefs juniors: Chiefs’ DNA

In the recent 1-0 PSL win over Marumo Gallants, Aden McCarthy, Zitha Kwinika, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Mduduzi Shabalala, and Lebohang Maboe were all in the starting team. Mfundo Vilakazi, Thulani Mabaso, and goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma started from the bench.

“For us as a club, it’s extremely important to have a high percentage of our academy graduates featuring. It fosters our plan of sustainability. These players carry the club’s DNA and an in-depth understanding of the philosophy and culture,” he told the media.

“You know, our young graduates always have a very tight connection with our fan base, with an in-depth understanding of the team’s philosophy and culture. And it’s a conscious decision and strategy we’ve implemented as we look to build a team for the future.”

“We look forward to producing many more products from the KC Youth Academy. Being in the first team ranks, playing their trade in the PSL, whether it be with other teams, and, of course, being directed in our sales of players overseas, wanting to open that international market for our youth players,” Motaung Jr. concluded.
