MTN8: Bucs legend reveals ‘only’ advantage Pirates will have over Stellenbosch

Orlando Pirates legend Phumudzo Manenzhe has revealed the only advantage his former club will have over Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 final.

Both clubs sealed the spots in the final this past weekend after coming out victorious in their respective two-legged semifinals.

Ezimnyama Ngenkani triumphed over Cape Town City with a 3-1 aggregate score, while Stellenbosch FC overcame Mamelodi Sundowns with a 2-0 aggregate.

The cup final is scheduled for October 5, although the venue has yet to be announced by the PSL.

Manenzhe believes that the match will be closely contested, with Pirates holding an edge solely due to their larger fan base.

He asserts that the two teams have become more evenly matched in terms of quality, as Stellenbosch has made significant progress in recent seasons.

Last season, both clubs concluded the league with identical point totals (50) after 30 matches, with Pirates finishing in second place due to a superior goal difference.

“Pirates and Stellies, looking at last season, Orlando Pirates only qualified for the CAF Champions League on the last day of the season,” said Manenzhe on SuperSport.

“They had the same number of points with Stellies. The advantage is that Orlando Pirates has more supporters.”

The two teams met four times last season, with the Cape Winelands side winning on three occasions while the Sea Robbers grabbed just one victory.
