‘I needed it to boost my confidence’ – Mudau reacts after scoring return for Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khuliso Mudau feels his goal against SuperSport United was a major confidence booster after returning to the team following a long spell in the cold.

Mudau had played just 16 minutes of Sundowns’ previous six matches, with his limited playing time eliciting a war of words between his coach Manqoba Mngqithi and Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos.

The right-back was, however, recalled to the team for the visit of SuperSport on Wednesday and put in an impressive performance, capping it off with a late goal that sealed a 2-0 victory for Sundowns, who went to the top of the table.

Scoring return gives Khuliso Mudau belief

“It was a very tough match, I want to give credit to the boys, I mean it was not easy but I am very happy that we managed to get three points which is the most important thing which means a lot to the supporters,” Mudau told SuperSport TV.

“I needed that goal to boost my confidence going forward and I think I did very well in that space, scoring for the team.”

Mudau will hope that his display was enough to convince Mngqithi to play him regularly going forward.

The fullback and midfielder Teboho Mokoena had been dropped from the team with the latter tasting action for the first time in six games on Wednesday.

Mngqithi was impressed by their display which suggests whatever issues that might have been there are now sorted.

“I was very impressed with a lot of players, I think Mudau came into the party, Mothobi [Mvala], Grant [Kekana] were strong. The central midfield was strong for the longest part of the game,” he said.

Sundowns visit Polokwane City on Saturday where they will be looking to make it five league wins in a row.
