Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has sent a reminder to the Amakhosi supporters following their defeat to SuperSport United in the Betway Premiership on Saturday evening.
This was Amakhosi’s second loss in the league this season having been defeated by Mamelodi Sundowns in their last league game in September.
Under Nabi's leadership, Chiefs have played five matches, achieving three victories and suffering two losses.
Speaking after the match against SuperSport United, Nabi emphasised to the Chiefs' fans that this season is primarily a “rebuilding” phase for him.
This means not much is expected from the them as they try to stabilise the team after struggles in the past decade.
Nabi urged the supporters to refrain from criticising the players and to rally behind the team, even amidst occasional inconsistent performances.
NASREDDINE NABI SENDS MESSAGE TO KAIZER CHIEFS FANS
“First of all, I would like to thank them for being there and I ask them to continue to push and support the team,” said
“It's true that today we really wanted to give you the three points, we regret it, we didn't do it, it's not a reason to be sad. I remind you that our project this year is really to build the team and they are an essential part, an essential partner in the reconstruction of this team.
“We need them at all times, they are not only supporters of victories, but supporters of all times, of difficult moments and positive moments.
“Last time you said that we will go through difficult moments during the season, so there will be difficult moments. Because there is no Kaizer Chiefs without those millions of fans and today we deeply regret not giving them the three points.
“But that being said, it's a project that we are putting in place. Even last week after the game when we scored four goals, everyone was so happy. We say that the project is at its beginning and when it's at the beginning it's going like this, it's inconsistent, it's not linear.
“It's through those difficult moments that we want to tell them that we need their support. We need their support through those difficult moments because if they are really Kaizer Chiefs fans, then they need to be fans in good moments and bad moments. But what we promise them is that nobody is going to relax or sleep until this team gets where it deserves to be.
“We must also apologise to the players and encourage them. Don't criticize them too much because they are very sensitive and despite not being able to give them the victory, try to encourage them positively because in three days we play our match and we really need the morale of the players at the top. Another message to the fans is that the players know that they didn't deliver what the fans were expecting.”
