Nabi gives update on Mthethwa’s role at Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has shrugged off questions over the role of Sibongiseni Mthethwa in his team.

The former Stellenbosch midfielder has not been involved in Chiefs’ first two games of the season and there were also reports that he could be loaned out to Magesi FC before the transfer window closed last week.

Mthethwa’s lack of game time so far has heightened speculation over his future and role at Chiefs but Nabi is not keen to be drawn into those discussions as he tries to build a strong side at Naturena.

Does Sibongiseni Mthethwa have a future at Chiefs?

“We have 32 players and I have respect for all of them,” Nabi told the media after his side’s 3-1 win over AmaZulu.

“Why do you only ask me about Mthethwa, I have other players as well. We are a group and we are all [united] as a group.

“Mthethwa has good qualities, maybe after today he is starting for the Sundowns game. But I don’t want to talk too much about single players, I want to talk about all players.”

The midfielder’s role is still not yet known under Nabi

The midfielder is among those whose role is still not known as the Tunisian coach continues to put a stamp on his Chiefs team in a bid to return them to the top of South African football.

Whether that includes Mthethwa, who has not made the squad for Amakhosi’s league wins against Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu, only time will tell.

Nabi and his Chiefs squad have a major test up next as they host Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
