Nabi shares thoughts on Chiefs’ debutant Aden McCarthy

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has given his take on the performance of Aden McCarthy who played his first game against Sekhukhune United.

After developing through the reserve ranks and training periodically with the senior team since 2023, the left-footed centre-back has now been given his chance with Chiefs' first team.

He has followed several of his erstwhile DDC teammates like Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba, Mfundo Vilakazi, Donay Jansen, and Samkelo Zwane, among others, into the first team.

McCarthy played 86 minutes and was subbed off with Njabulo Blom was brought on.

‘HE HAD A VERY GOOD PERFORMANCE

“It’s true that we didn’t enter (start) the game well in the first two- three minutes, we conceded a goal with a back-line that probably played together for the first time with a lot of absentees as well,” Nabi said via his assistant coach Kaze on SuperSport as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“I think it’s an opportunity to congratulate a player like Aiden McCarthy.

“It’s his first game in the Premier League and he did a very good performance but we had the strong character to stay in the game, stay concentrated and as well as we scored in the last minute of the first half was a very good moment for us which gave us the opportunity to go into halftime with morale and a bit stronger.”

The Phefeni Glamour Boys sit ninth in the league standings having racked up 31 points after 27 Betway Premiership matches.

Amakhosi are next in action against Polokwane City in the league game on Saturday, 24 May at the FNB Stadium.
