Time for Nabi to cook as Kaizer Chiefs new assistant coach lands at Naturena

Kaizer Chiefs’ new assistant coach Cedric Kaze has been confirmed by the club following his unveiling on Thursday ahead of Amakhosi’s Carling Knockout tie against SuperSport United.

The Glamnour Boys face Matsatsantsa in the Round of 16 of the Carling Knockout on Saturday and they will be accompanied by the new assistant coach for the match in Polokwane.

Kaze agreed to join his former boss and friend Nasreddine Nabi at Chiefs following the departure of Fernando Da Cruz, who took up a role at the Moroccan federation, just two months into his new job at Naturena.

When should Chiefs fans expect to see Cedric Kaze?

However, after an extensive search, Chiefs have settled on the Burundian, another of Nabi’s lieutenants, staying true to their agreement with the tactician that he will have a free hand to select his backroom staff.

“Coach Cedric has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep understanding of the game throughout his coaching career. His familiarity with coach Nabi's methods and their proven partnership will be invaluable as we aim for excellence on the pitch,” said Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr.

What will be the role of the new assistant coach?

Kaze worked with Nabi during his two-year spell at Tanzanian champions Yanga where they won back-to-back league titles and also reached the final of the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Science, CAF A licence, as well as a German Football Federation A licence and was named coach of the year for East and Central Africa in 2012.

He will be the second assistant behind Khalil Ben Youssef with Nabi delighted to have him as he has a lot to work on with the Chiefs squad.

SABC also reports that Kaze will help with communication as his English is more polished compared to that of his boss, who has had to use a translator sometimes to pass his message to his players and press conferences.
