Nkanyiso Shinga: Millions Kaizer Chiefs paid for new left-back

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly paid a modest price for versatile defender Nkanyiso Shinga who was unveiled on Tuesday.

Shinga was among three players unveiled by Chiefs, the others being striker Flavio Silva and attacking midfielder Ethan Chislett, as he joins from Portuguese club FC Alverca, who recently earned promotion to the top flight.

The 25-year-old was key for the club in the 2024-25 season, where he played 20 Liga Portugal 2 games and according to reports, Chiefs have signed him for just over R4 million.

As per Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Shinga has joined Chiefs for €200K (R4.15 million) which FC Alverca has deemed a ‘fair price’ for the Durban-born player who can also play at left-back and in midfield.

What have Chiefs said about Nkanyiso Shinga?

“Player Announcements! We are pleased to announce the signing of 25-year-old Nkanyiso Shinga,” Chiefs said when confirming the player’s arrival.

“The talented left-back is a versatile operator who can also play in midfield and attack. He will don jersey #74. Welcome to the Family!”

Shinga's arrival increases the headache for coach Naressine Nabi at left-back as Bradley Cross, Bongani Sam and Happy Mashiane are still at the club while Paseka Mako has also been signed by Chiefs, according to reports.

It remains to be seen if Chiefs will keep all players or release some as there have been reports that Sam is on his way out of the club, having not played a single minute since signing last year.
