Orlando Pirates sensation Mohau Nkota has been making headlines for his performances since coach Jose Riveiro gave him a chance with the senior team.
The 20-year-old has scored four goals across all competitions for the Soweto giants; his latest strikes were in the Caf Champions League where he claimed a brace in Group C's 2-1 win over CR Belouizdad.
Nkota played against the defending champions Al Ahly last weekend at the Orlando Stadium, a match that ended goalless. In his interview with the Caf Media team, the youngster has opened up on his good form, and the reason behind the club's strong start to the ongoing campaign.
Nkota explains his and Pirates good form
“What has contributed [to my good form] is the great support that I have from my teammates and technical team who all work equally hard and as a collective for the team,” the attacker stated.
“First Caf Champions League and we had our first three points. We want to get another three points and move up. I am working hard for the team and not for me and that helps us push more for results.
“I think my form has helped the team a lot and I have done my best when given an opportunity, so I think I have to do more. I have to always do my best and score goals so that the team does well. This is a very strong team that has been pushing a lot collectively, so I think we just need to keep going and win more games,” Nkota continued.
“We have a lot of players who are hungry to play and every player that gets a chance wants to do well. We prepare the same, so all our players are eager to play.”
Nkota reveals feeling after scoring a brace and the set objectives
By virtue of scoring a brace in his debut, Nkota is now among the top scorers in the prestigious club competition.
“Well firstly it is the team that comes first, secondly the players, and then the technical team. So when the time comes for me to score I do it to help the team because everything I do is about the team,” the winger added.
“It is a good thing for me, and I need to focus more on scoring goals so that I can get help the team to achieve. So, I just need to score more goals because it is a big thing to compete with other good players in the Caf Champions League.
“Again it is the team that comes first and the coaches’ information and instructions. People may think I am doing this for me but I am not doing this for myself but for the team to win and help the team to compete in the Champions League,” he responded when asked about his goals.
“So no its not for me or personal goals that I want to set but it is for the team. If I ever get an award, it will not just be for me but for my team that is surrounding and supporting me because this is a very good team.”
The youngster might be in the starting team against Stade d'Abidjan in the Caf Champions League outing set for Saturday.
