No heads will roll over Mokoena saga! ‘The matter is closed,’ says SAFA boss

SAFA boss Danny Jordaan has ended speculation over whether Bafana Bafana team manager Vincent Tseka will be punished for the Teboho Mokoena fiasco.

There have been calls for heads to roll since South Africa were docked three points by FIFA for a major blunder that saw Mokoena fielded against Lesotho when he was supposed to have been suspended.

That nearly proved costly for the country but Nigeria did them a huge favour when they thrashed Benin, seeing them qualify after beating Rwanda on Tuesday.

Why is Jordaan closing the Mokoena file?

However, Tseka’s fate was still not known with many hoping that he, and any others who were responsible for the sanctions, will be punished but Jordaan has closed the file without any action.

“We are going to the World Cup so the matter is closed,” Jordaan told the media on Thursday, all but letting off the hook those who nearly bungled South Africa’s World Cup dream.

“We are not interested in the matter, we are going to the World Cup, qualified and that is where we go. We are not going to dwell on what is behind us.”

Jordaan says focus should be turned to ensuring South Africa perform better in their upcoming tournaments and not what happened in the past.

“What is in front of us is the World Cup and African Cup of Nations. The coach must have told you that we are focusing on the African Cup of Nations in Morocco and then the World Cup,” he added.

Tseka was a relieved man when Bafana Bafana qualified for the World Cup on Tuesday but opted to keep silent as he celebrated the moment after coach Hugo Broos masterminded the team’s return to the tournament for the first time since 2002.
