If there is one man who is relieved following Bafana Bafana’s World Cup qualification is team manager Vincent Tseka.
Tseka is the man who nearly bungled South Africa’s good work in the World Cup qualifiers after sleeping on the job and leading to a sanction from FIFA.
Just as coach Hugo Broos was looking to win one more match to be sure of a place at next year’s tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada, a bombshell arrived from FIFA.
Bafana Team Manager nearly eroded all the hard work
South Africa, who had fielded Teboho Mokoena against Lesotho in March, when he was supposed to be suspended for the game, were docket three points, seeing them tumble from top of the group with 17 points to second on 14, same as Benin, with Nigeria just three behind.
With two games to play, South Africa were in a spot of bother and questions were then asked over how such an anomaly could happen and who was responsible for checking players’ suspensions.
Tseka’s name came up and a man who is never in the spotlight, became the centre of attention with calls for him to be fired made by former players, commentators and fans.
How did Vincent Tseka react to Word Cup qualification?
While it is not known if he will face further punishment now that Bafana Bafana are qualified, Tseka was a relieved man on Tuesday and it was evident on his face as he smiled and hugged players and coaching staff at the final whistle.
As he walked off the pitch, he winked at the cameras and offered a cheeky smile before following it up with a finger on his lips to suggest he was not going to comment on what happened a few weeks ago.
Bafana Bafana sealed World Cup qualification after a big favour from Nigeria, who beat Benin 4-0, with Broos men thrashing Rwanda 3-0 to finish top of Group F with 18 points, one more than the Super Eagles, who clinched one of the four playoff spots.
