Fiacre Ntwari: Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper finds new home

Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has secured a move to a fellow Premier Soccer League club, ending a period of uncertainty over his future at Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the upcoming season.

According to KickOff, the Rwandan international has joined newly-promoted Kruger United on a season-long loan. Ntwari’s standing at Amakhosi had diminished last season, notably after an incident where he reportedly refused to be substituted during a Carling Knockout match against Stellenbosch FC.

Following that event, Ntwari found himself sliding down the pecking order. Club captain Brandon Petersen solidified his position as the primary goalkeeper and Bruce Bvuma was also preferred, leaving Ntwari on the sidelines.

Potential not realised at Chiefs

The 26-year-old arrived at Chiefs from TS Galaxy in July 2024 with high expectations, widely anticipated to become the club’s number one. However, his tenure at Naturena did not unfold as planned.

With Kaizer Chiefs recently signing Renaldo Leaner on a free transfer after his exit from Sekhukhune United, the club has sanctioned Ntwari’s departure to gain valuable playing time elsewhere.

Fiacre Ntwari’s frustrating spell

Ntwari was seen as the long-term replacement for Itumeleng Khune when he first signed for Chiefs but after starting well in the 2024-25 season, he made a number of blunders which saw him dropped when he suffered an injury.

By the time he returned from his setback, his position had been taken by first Petersen and then Bvuma. He made matters worse last season when he refused to come off in what was his only start.

Overall, the Rwandan goalkeeper has made just eight appearances his two years at Chiefs, necessitating the move away from Naturena to get regular playing time.
