Mamelodi Sundowns have made their intent clear by confirming the arrival of two quality players in their bid to push for titles this season.
The defending Premier Soccer League champions haven’t had a good time domestically, where they failed to make an impact in the MTN8 and Carling Knockout. Furthermore, their inconsistency in the PSL, have seen Orlando Pirates go to the summit with 28 points from 12 games, as opposed to the 26 by Downs in 13 matches.
A couple of days ago, the Brazilians confirmed the signing of Monnapule Saleng from Orlando Pirates. This is a massive move for a player who had helped the Soweto giants win five trophies – three MTN8 crowns and two Nedbank Cups, during his time with them.
During his time with the Orbit College FC, on loan, the 27-year-old found the back of the net two times and provided three assists in the 13 outings before Masandawana took him in.
Sundowns unveil another striker
On Monday, January 12, Sundowns confirmed the arrival of Colombian striker Brayan Leon.
“Brayan Leon joins the Yellow Nation! Masandawana are proud to welcome Brayan Lèon to the Club! A new name. A new challenge. Welcome to the Home of the Champions,” the club confirmed.
In 2025, the 25-year-old striker managed seven assists and 13 goals in the Colombian Primera A matches in the 40 games he played for Indipendiente Medellin.
A year before, he had managed three assists and six goals in the Copa Sudamericana’s 10 games he featured (an equavalent to the CAF Confederation Cup) as his team reached the quarter finals.
This explains why Masandawana dug deep to get the services of the striker to, seemingly, replace Peter Shalulile who has been struggling for consistency.
