Orlando Pirates make decision on Kabelo Dlamini’s future

Orlando Pirates have reportedly decided to offer midfielder Kabelo Dlamini a new contract as he enters the final six months of his current deal.

Dlamini has been at Pirates since 2019 when he joined from Bloemfontein Celtic and has become an integral member of coach Jose Riveiro’s team and this season, he has played 24 games across all competitions, scoring two goals while contributing seven assists.

His performances have impressed the club, who now want to offer him a new two-year contract, with the option for another that will see him tied to the Buccaneers until June 2028.

“As we speak now, I can say the deal is as good as done,” a Pirates source told Soccer Laduma.

Why do Pirates want to keep Dlamini?

“All the parties involved are happy with the new deal and that is why you can see that the player is also happy whenever he is given an opportunity to play. So, for now, I can tell you it is a two-year contract with a one-year option until June 2028.”

Dlamini is also reported to have attracted interest from European clubs, further fueling the desire by Pirates to offer him a new deal, before potential suitors start engaging him.

Orlando Pirates confirm departure of attacking midfielder

“It is not for the first time that there has been interest in Kabelo [Dlamini] but the team values him so much and they wouldn’t want to lose him for free and the renewal of his contract is to make it clear that they still value him and whosoever wants him should pay for his services, hence his new contract,” another source told the network.

The midfielder has been used in different positions by Riveiro, who has opted to deploy him in central midfield in certain matches, or in an attacking midfield role in others, and his output has been impressive.
