A successful 2024 saw Orlando Pirates lift both the Nedbank Cup and the MTN8 trophy. As the Soweto giants look to build on this success in the new year, Afrik-Foot has compiled a list of New Year resolutions aimed at guiding their pursuit of further glory.
WHAT PIRATES MUST DO IN 2025?
‘Consistency is key’
In recent seasons, Orlando Pirates have excelled in cup competitions, winning the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 trophies multiple times. However, a recurring challenge has been maintaining consistency in the league.
This inconsistency has allowed Mamelodi Sundowns to dominate, winning seven consecutive league titles and transforming the Betway Premiership into a seemingly one-horse race.
Retain Coach Riveiro
Under the guidance of Jose Riveiro, Pirates have enjoyed significant success. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the club must prioritize retaining the “Spanish Guitar.”
While Riveiro has previously expressed a preference for not staying at any club for more than three seasons, Pirates must strive to convince him to extend his stay.
Strengthen the Squad for a Challenging Season
The upcoming January transfer window presents a crucial opportunity for Pirates to bolster their squad. With Pirates competing in the Betway Premiership, Nedbank Cup, and CAF Champions League, a demanding schedule lies ahead.
Pirates have been linked with several high-profile targets, including Polokwane City duo Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi, as well as Stellenbosch's Jayden Adams, who is also reportedly on Mamelodi Sundowns' radar.
