Latest news about Orlando Pirates, in the last 24 hours, including questions about the new signing, Sipho Mbule’s update, and more.
The intent of Pirates’ signing questioned
Orlando Pirates’ acquisition of 20-year-old winger Bohlale Ngwato raises genuine questions about immediate first-team impact versus long-term planning.
Ngwato was one of four signings announced by Pirates, though he is perhaps the one with the more modest profile amongst the quartet.
With just one goal, zero assists and a solitary Betway Premiership Man of the Match award across 12 matches for Siwelele FC, the former SuperSport United academy graduate hasn’t exactly set the league alight.

The Buccaneers already boast a formidable arsenal in wide positions: Tshepang Moremi, Relebohile Mofokeng, Oswin Appollis and Daniel Msendami all occupy the same territory where Ngwato operates. Breaking into that rotation seems a monumental task for a player still finding his feet at senior level.
The question becomes whether Pirates need him now or whether they’re banking on what he could become in 18 months after proper development in the reserve side?
Latest on Mbule after Bucs’ exit
Agent Mike Makaab has provided an update on the future of ex-Orlando Pirates star Sipho Mbule.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Makaab said Mbule is most likely to take up an offer outside of local borders.

“We are looking at opportunities for Sipho. It’s still early days, but there has been a lot of interest. He is open to considering a move and would like to further his career outside the borders of South Africa,” Makaab explained.
Broos urged to trust Mofokeng vs Mexico
Junior Khanye has made a huge plea with Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to show faith in Relebohile Mofokeng and start him in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Mexico.

The coach has to show belief in Rele. True, he has never shown up at this international level but play him,” Khanye said as quoted by iDiski Times.
“I Have belief in him, have faith. Even [Iqraam] Rayners should start. Rele even though he hasn’t really showed up at this level he gives me hope that we might get that one goal. But I honestly don’t see us getting something out of these guys.
“So Relebohile Mofokeng, Rayners and [Oswin] Appollis. Appollis is a very important experienced player as well. He got to Orlando Pirates and he rise. And another player I have belief in, I believe in Tebza [Teboho] Mokoena.
“I believe in those four players and others. And we shouldn’t concede. We don’t have to concede anything can happen,” he concluded.
