PSL coach credits Pirates for his team’s flying start

Milford FC coach Xanti Pupuma feels his team’s great start to the Premier Soccer League campaign is down to their display against champions Orlando Pirates in their season opener.

The newly-promoted side were handed a baptism by fire when they faced Pirates in their first match in the top flight and while they lost 2-0, they gave a good account of themselves, dominating possession and troubling the buccaneers in key areas.

Pupuma has since seen his side rise to fifth on the table with 11 points from seven matches after three wins, two draws and as many losses and he feels that game against Pirates set the base for what they have been on.

“The first game against Orlando Pirates gave us the confidence and the belief that we can actually compete in the division,” Pupuma said as per Sportswire.

“We played against the champions, and we showed up. We dominated possession and gave them a headache. These boys have been together. They would do anything for each other.

“They know what I want, how I want us to play. The sessions that we do with them during training prepare them for this kind of situation.

“They are still young, they are coming, and they can play. They really can play.”

Rival coach backs Bucs for Champions League glory

La Cure Waves head coach Jerome Thomas is impressed by the Soweto giants and feels they have enough to go all the way and with the CAF Champions League.

Thomas watched as his team were outclassed by Pirates in the second leg of their first preliminary round match at Orlando Stadium, losing 3-1, with all three goals scored in the first half and he is in awe of Abdeslam Ouaddou’s ‘quality side.’

“I am proud of players, they gave everything on the pitch, we are amateurs, La Cure Waves and Pirates is a big club, good players who deserve qualification,” he admitted as per iDiski Times.

“The match as you saw, it was very difficult, you saw that difference between the players, they are levels above,” he added.

“I wish Pirates advance to the next stage and why not win the African Champions League.”
