Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has revealed what led to a touchline brawl between the two sets of benches when his side played out a goalless draw against Durban City on Saturday.
“There is a difference between playing strong with physicality on the ball and to break the players, this is not the mentality and never will be mine, as first an educator, before being a coach,” he said as quoted by iDiski Times.
“We need to protect the players, if someone cannot protect them in the middle of the pitch, then I have to protect them,” Ouaddou added, revealing that his players were on the end of some bad treatment.
“We don’t have to forget that in the stands there’s children. We have to be an example, football has to be a bridge, and example, a model for the next generation.”
Bucs boss oozing confidence despite title setback
Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou still believes his team will get the win they need against Orbit College in their final match of the season and win the PSL title after a goalless draw with Durban City that saw them miss the chance to be crowned on Saturday.
“I said that beginning of the season, middle of the season that probably the title would be played until the end of the season the last game. So, let’s go, let’s go to take it to be champion in the last game,” he told SuperSport TV.
“I think it’s possible, you see that the spirit, sports spirit Durban are there, they came here to play I like it. It keeps the suspense for the football lovers in South Africa; it’s the magic of the PSL. I’m not worried to be honest.”

Legendary Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs has admitted that he was wrong about his ex-team’s title credentials after watching them push Mamelodi Sundowns to the very end.
Pirates need to win their final match of the season to be crowned since Josephs formed the team that last won the PSL title in 2012 and the outspoken ex-keeper says he overestimated Sundowns and is now forced to eat humble pie.
“Let’s rectify things and own up when we make mistakes, you know what I’m saying? We were not wrong [to criticise], but we were disappointed in our team because of the opportunities they squandered,” Josephs said SoccerBeat.
“The problem was that we expected too much from Mamelodi Sundowns simply because they have been so dominant over the past few years.”
