Sibisi adamant Pirates will deliver vs Orbit

Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi has refused to throw in the towel in their Betway Premiership title race after they suffered a minor blow against Durban City.

“We’re still within our objective. We shouldn’t doubt, there’s no reason to doubt. I think the performance [against Durban City] showed that we wanted to win, unfortunately it was not enough for us,” he told the club’s media team.

“But you know, we go back we keep on working. “We have final game against ORBIT. There’s no reason not to believe.

“We would’ve loved to end the season at home with three points. As I said, unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. We tried. It’s not through the lack of trying. The boys kept fighting until the very last whistle. So unfortunate for us, but we take the point and we move,” Sibisi concluded.

Bucs blow as key player races against time to be fit

With the Betway Premiership title race set to go down to the wire, indications are that Orlando Pirates could be without one of their attacking options, Yanela Mbuthuma, for what is shaping up to be a decisive final-day encounter against Orbit College FC.

Mbuthuma sustained the injury during Pirates’ crucial Betway Premiership encounter against Durban City on Saturday, when he was forced off in the 38th minute after taking a knock to the knee.

The striker was visibly struggling as he limped off the field before being replaced by Evidence Makgopa in what was initially understood to be a precautionary substitution.

Although there has been no official confirmation regarding the extent of the injury, sources close to the situation have indicated that the forward remains a doubt ahead of the potentially season-defining fixture against Orbit College.

Former Bucs coachreacts to ‘exciting’ achievement

Former Orlando Pirates youth coach Mandla Qhogi has reacted to his historic, treble-winning campaign in Eswatini with Nsingizini Hotspurs FC, admitting he used to fantasise about mimicking the senior Buccaneers’ success.

“You know, it’s very exciting and a good feeling to have won a treble. We used to see this when we were still at Orlando Pirates’ development, and the senior team was winning a treble,” Qhogi told FARPost.

“So, we always fantasised about achieving the very same feat and being part of it. I think for me now, it is a good and sweet feeling that I would want to be consistent.

“If you see, I first won my first trophy as a senior coach at this club when we won the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup. So, it has built momentum for us that helped us showcase our quality in the CAF Champions League, despite being knocked out in the second preliminary round.

“But the display that we showed throughout the season was amazing. We went on to reach the final of the Ingwenyama Cup for the first time in the club’s history. We ended up being the champions, and it was a special feeling.

“It was like you were dreaming, and you didn’t want to wake up from that dream because you were dreaming of all the good things. So, clinching the league over the weekend summed up everything that we have worked hard for during this period,” he concluded.
