Relebohile Mofokeng’s move to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise has been followed by another significant development off the pitch, with the attacker now represented by The Team – Wasserman.

The renowned sports, music and entertainment company provides representation and marketing services to talent and counts over 4,000 clients across six continents, with their total value of playing contracts estimated to exceed $9.52 billion.

Mofokeng joins a client list that includes Real Madrid and Uruguay captain Fede Valverde, Chelsea’s Malo Gusto, Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Marshal Munetsi, Dutch international Crysencio Summerville and Aston Villa pair Ross Barkley and Tyrone Mings.

The Sharpeville youngster completed his move to the Belgian Jupiler Pro League outfit on a four-year deal from Orlando Pirates in a reported R70 million transfer.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has weighed in on Mofokeng’s destination, arguing that Royale Union Saint-Gilloise is an ideal stepping stone rather than a compromise.

Mosimane pointed to the Belgian Pro League’s track record of developing African talent into global stars, drawing a direct comparison to Percy Tau, who used Belgium as the platform that eventually took him to Europe’s biggest stages.

Speaking on Smash Sports, Mosimane also highlighted Belgium’s more favourable work permit regulations compared to England, where eligibility criteria tied to senior international caps make it significantly harder for South African players to secure a move.

Mosimane added that both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have squad depth sufficient to allow more players to seek opportunities abroad, and stressed the importance of expanding the local talent base to benefit Bafana Bafana in the long run.

Mofokeng’s move has not only captured the attention of the wider football world — it has lit a fire under one of his former teammates still at Orlando Pirates.

Camren Dansin, a fellow 21-year-old who came through the Transnet School of Excellence alongside Mofokeng before both joined the Buccaneers’ reserve side, has openly stated that seeing his former teammate move to Europe has reinforced his own ambitions.

“It just shows that hard work pays off because Rele has been very consistent. So, it is very inspiring. Seeing him make a move overseas is something I dream about as a player,” Dansin told SABC.
