Orlando Pirates have reportedly received a bid of over R35 million for youngster Relebohile Mofokeng from an American club.

Mofokeng’s future remains a subject of speculation since the end of last season with reports claiming that a Saudi club, another from Israel and the US are interested.

The 20-year-old winger has also been reported to have attracted interest from Dutch giants PSL Eindhoven but Pirates denied this particular claim and now, reports from the United States claim that an MLS club has submitted a bid of over $2 million (R35 million) for him.

US journalist Tom Bogert, who is well-versed with MLS transfer news, has reported that Minnesota United, which is home to Bafana Bafana forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane, are the American club that has submitted the big-money bid for Mofokeng.

What has been said of the MLS bid for Mofokeng?

It remains to be seen if the latest report will lead to any movement around Mofokeng, whose team play Stellenbosch in the PSL on Wednesday, before a tough MTN8 semi-final second leg away to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

Mofokeng has emerged as one of South Africa’s best players and was Pirates’ top scorer last season with 12 goals while adding 15 assists which earned him a second successive PSL Young Player of the Year Award.
