Orlando Pirates Transfer News: Champions sign another midfielder!

Premier Soccer League champions Orlando Pirates have announced another signing just a couple of days before the new season begins.

Midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi is the ninth signing the Sea Robbers have made in a bid to strengthen the team to stand a chance of successfully defending their title. The 23-year-old lasted a season at Stellenbosch before the Buccaneers conviced him him to jump ship.

The former Marumo Gallants player was crucial for the Maroons, as he played 28 games across all competitions.

Bucs confirm Mokobodi’s arrival

On Wednesday, Pirates announced the midfielder will be part of their squad for the 2026/27 campaign.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to confirm the signing of midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi from Stellenbosch FC, ahead of the new Betway Premiership campaign,” Bucs confirmed through their media team.

“The 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract and will link up with the rest of the squad this morning,” they added.

Mokobodi, who will wear jersey number 33, is delighted to have joined Bucs, “I am pleased to be here and look forward to meeting the rest of the team. It’s a big opportunity to play for such a club and I am ready to get going. I would like to make a meaningful contribution to this great institution.”

Others who have been signed by the Soweto giants are Mthetheleli Mthiyane (Stellenbosch FC), Sbangani Zulu (Richards Bay), Bohale Ngwato (Siwelele), Ghampani Lungu (Siwelele), Neo Rapoo (Siwelele), Aphiwe Baliti (Siwelele), Matome Mmolai (Leicesterford City), and Sebastian Pedersen (Sogndal Fotball, Norway).
