Orlando Pirates vs Mamelodi Sundowns: Venue change for potential title decider

Published on by

Orlando Pirates will host Mamelodi Sundowns at a different venue during their PSL clash next week.

Pirates will welcome Sundowns in what could be the potential title decider on Wednesday, February 18 with both sides looking for three points that will boost their chances of winning the PSL crown.

The Buccaneers could head into the fixture already six points clear as they currently enjoy a three-point advantage over Sundowns with their next match being on Saturday at home to Marumo Gallants at a time when Miguel Cardoso’s team will be facing Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger in the CAF Champions League.

If they win, they will head into the fixture against Sundowns with a six-point lead, looking to extend it to nine, even though the Brazilians would still have a match in hand but it could prove pivotal in the title race.

Where will the match be played?

Pirates will, however, have to do it away from their traditional home which is Orlando Stadium as the match has been moved to the FNB Stadium with kick off set at 19:30.

FBN Stadium is traditionally the home of Kaizer Chiefs but Pirates will assume temporary occupancy when they host their bitter rivals Sundowns although no official reason has been given yet for the change of venue.

Tickets have already gone on sale for the match which is expected to be sold out just like their last meeting in November, which Sundowns hosted, ending 1-1.

Pirates have been in great form and remain unbeaten in the league since losing their opening two games of the season while Sundowns’ form has been shaky, casting doubts over whether they can pick maximum points from their next league fixture against the Buccaneers.
