Tshegofatso Mabasa has earned a high praise from Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, not just for his goals, but for his attitude after a late strike that marked his 50th goal for the club.
The Buccaneers secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday at the Orlando Stadium.
The centre-forward demonstrated the killer instinct that has defined his career at the club. In the 93rd minute, he powered home a header from close range, securing the crucial two-goal cushion and silencing any doubt about the result.
With 50 goals under his belt, Mabasa is now only eight goals away from matching the legendary Benedict ‘Tso' Vilakazi's record of 58 goals as Orlando Pirates' top goal scorer.
After the match, a delighted Ouaddou hailed Mabasa as a player with a “fantastic spirit.”
‘I’M HAPPY FOR MABASA’
“Yeah, I’m happy for Mabasa. Fantastic spirit,” he said SuperSport TV after the match.
“Like I told you, fantastic boys in the dressroom. Very united, very good team spirit and about the management of the players.
“I think it’s normal for such a big club when you have such talent players you need to think about the rotation and try to give time for every players and to be involved in the project. Very important.”
The triumph over the Mpumalanga-based outfit moved the Soweto giants into third place on the Betway Premiership table.
Pirates have accumulated 15 points in seven league matches they have played so far.
Ouaddou’s troops will be back in action this Saturday, October 4th, facing Siwelele in their next league match at Orlando Stadium.
