Percy Tau – How Benin clash is different from Bafana’s past games

Published on by

Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau has explained how their clash is different from the past games they have played.

Bafana will play Benin in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Tuesday, 25 March 2026.

Coming off a 2-0 win against Lesotho, and with Benin drawing 2-2 with Zimbabwe, Hugo Broos' side is focused on gaining more points to maintain their top spot.

According to Tau, a win is vital for Bafana, regardless of how they play. While he appreciates their entertaining past performances, he believes that securing a victory in this match is now the most important thing.

PERCY TAU ON IMPORTANCE OF SECURING RESULT AGAINST BENIN

“It's important to try and analyse the games, which ones to win, which ones to play well and get the win, and which ones not to play well and get the win,” said Tau as per SABC Sport.

“So it's also about the demands of the game – some are different, it demands us to fight, work hard, which you have not seen in the past with us, but now it's there.

“We're also trying to say, if the game is not allowing us to play our normal game, we'll try and do it in a different way because we also need the points sometimes.

“And ja, we'll play the good football and show how good we are, but sometimes we have to fight to get the results, and it's going to be the same in the next game.

“We know it's going to be difficult against Benin in Ivory Coast, it's our last game against them, but we also understand that Nigeria is coming up, so it's also important for us to try and separate as much as possible.

“But it's going to be a fight against Benin, and we'll also try and give them a fight, it's not going to be an easy one, but we'll fight to get the three points.”
