Peter Shalulile Reveals All on Failed Move

Published on by

Mamelodi Sundowns’ star striker Peter Shalulile has broken his silence on the transfer saga that almost ended his time at the club, a drama that concluded just before he etched his name into football history.

For weeks, the football community was abuzz with reports of his imminent departure, with Esperance de Tunis emerging as a strong contender for his signature.

It was widely believed that a deal was close, and Shalulile had even bid his farewells to his teammates. However, in a twist of fate, the move fell through.

Shalulile’s decision was a personal one; he chose to return to Chloorkop, driven by a desire to contribute and compete for his place. This was a move that paid off almost immediately.

Since rejoining the team, he has been in lethal form, scoring two crucial goals. The second of those goals, a historic strike, saw him officially become the all-time leading goal scorer in PSL history, surpassing Siyabonga Nomvethe's long-standing record of 129 goals.

Shalulile’s journey from the brink of a transfer to a record-breaking hero is a testament to his resilience and unwavering commitment to his club.

‘THINGS DIDN’T GO WELL’

“I won’t lie to you… I’m back, things didn’t go well… we were discussing and negotiating, paper work and all that,” he told Sundowns website.

“I decided to call the Chairman and rather let me come back, add my experience and fight for my position.”

A potential swap deal for Peter Shalulile fell apart. Mamelodi Sundowns were reportedly open to trading Yan Sasse to Kaizer Chiefs as part of the deal, but the Brazilian declined the move to South Africa.

Now, all focus is on the field. Sundowns and Shalulile will be back in action on 14 September after the international break, when they host Magesi.
