Pirates striker linked with SuperSport, Gavin Hunt comments

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has addressed the speculation regarding a potential acquisition of an Orlando Pirates striker.

Hunt acknowledged the necessity for a striker following the departure of Etiosa Ighodaro, who returned to his parent club, Mamelodi Sundowns, before being loaned to AmaZulu FC.

He also expressed concerns regarding Bradley Grobler, who sustained an injury during the MTN8 quarterfinal match against Orlando Pirates last month.

There are rumors suggesting that SuperSport is considering the signing of Pirates forward Zakhele Lepasa who has not seen much playing time this season.

Hunt dismissed the rumors, stating that he was equally taken aback upon reading about them in the media.

GAVIN HUNT RESPONDS RUMOURS LINKING PIRATES STRIKER TO PIRATES

“I read that [interest in Lepasa] yesterday in the media. It was news to me as well, that's the first time I've heard about it. I didn't know anything about it,” Hunt told journalists at the Betway Premiership launch on Tuesday.

“We need strikers, we do. We need some strikers. We've got no strikers. We lost Ighodaro, we lost Bradley – they gave us 20 goals last year, so where are we going to get 20 goals? So, we need to get strikers.”

Jose Riveiro has distinctly indicated his preference for Tshegofatso Mabasa as the primary striker, while Evidence Makgopa is typically brought on during the latter stages of the match.

Lepasa has yet to participate in any matches since the club's pre-season in Spain, as well as the MTN8 and CAF Champions League fixtures that the Buccaneers have contested this season.

During his previous tenure at SuperSport, he netted two goals in ten appearances across all competitions.
