Orlando Pirates have continued their restructuring ahead of the 2025/26 season by releasing two players.
A couple of days ago, the MTN8 holders confirmed Innocent Maela and Miguel Timm will not be part of the playing unit for the new campaign. The Sea Robbers will be challenging Mamelodi Sundowns for the Premier Soccer League, and other domestic titles like the Carling Knockout, Nedbank Cup, and MTN8.
Bucs will also be aiming to deliver the Caf Champions League following a relatively good campaign where they reached the semi-final.
Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane released
The Buccaneers have confirmed versatile defender Paseka Mako has been released alongside Thabiso Monyane.
Mako joined the Soweto giants from Chippa United in July 2018. The 31-year-old has since played 173 matches for Pirates, scoring two goals and providing eight assists in the process.
Thabiso Monyane is another player whose stay at Bucs has ended upon the expiry of his contract. The Pirates' graduate was promoted in July 2019 and went on to play 94 games for the team, scoring four times and providing as many assists.
Monyane handed to Chiefs

According to SABC, the 25-year-old Monyane has now been handed over to Kaizer Chiefs to bolster their squad.
“Chiefs have been presented with the opportunity to sign right back Thabiso Monyane, whose contract with Orlando Pirates runs out this month,” they reported.
“It’s understood Monyane has not put pen to paper on a new agreement with The Buccaneer, but unclear whether this is due to the two parties not finding each other on personal terms or if Pirates are ready to release the player. What the public broadcaster has gathered, however, is that Monyane has been offered to Amakhosi as a free agent.”
It is interesting to see whether Chiefs will add another right back owing to the quality they have in Dillan Solomons and Reeve Frosler.
