Siyabonga Ngezana: Positive injury update on Bafana Bafana defender

Bafana Bafana defender Siyabong Ngezana has reportedly returned to training as he begins his comeback from a muscle injury.

The centre-back suffered the injury in September shortly after featuring in Bafana Bafana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan and it ruled him out of this month’s double header with Congo.

Earlier projections had put his possible comeback at the end of October but sources close to his Romanian club FCSB have told iDiski Times that he is back to training, giving them hope of a return to action soon for both club and country.

Ngezana has not featured for the club since returning from international duty in September when he was named on the bench in their 2-2 draw with CFR Cluj on September 15. He was, however, missing from the squad in their subsequent five games, two in the league and three in the Europa League.

Ngezana has been key for FCSB since joining from Chiefs

The defender has been crucial for FCSB since joining them from Kaizer Chiefs and began this season with a Romanian Super Cup victory before he played a key role as they qualified for the Europa League group stages.

In his absence, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos called up Orlando Pirates defender Thabiso Sesane although it is Mamelodi Sundowns’ Grant Kekana who partnered Kaizer Chiefs Rushwin Dortley in central defence for the two matches against Congo.

FCSB will hope to have him back in the starting XI as quickly as possible although this weekend’s clash with bitter rivals Dinamo Bucuresti will likely be too soon, which will put him in contention for a return to the national team for the November matches where South Africa hope to seal their qualification for AFCON 2025.
