PSL appoint new Independent League Prosecutor

The PSL has appointed a new Independent League Prosecutor who will have the tough task of settling various legal disputes in South African football

Independent League Prosecutor is the man who listens and settles disputes across the divisions and following the end of the term of Zola Majavu, lawyer Pumzo Mbana has been appointed to replace him.

“The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed that Mr Zola Majavu’s term of office as Independent League Prosecutor concludes on the last day of January 2026,” the PSL said via a statement on Friday.

“The PSL Chairman, ACEO and members of the Executive Committee have expressed their sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr Majavu for the competence and integrity he demonstrated in the execution of his duties during his tenure.

“Mr Majavu will, however, continue to serve in his capacity as a member of the First Instance Body responsible for adjudicating club licensing applications each season.”

The PSL expressed confidence in Mbana who has extensive experience in sports law.

“At its meeting held on Thursday, 29 January 2026, the PSL Executive Committee confirmed the appointment of Mr Pumzo Mbana, an advocate of the Johannesburg Bar, as the new Independent League Prosecutor,” the statement further read.

“Mr Mbana brings with him extensive experience in sports law and has previously served with distinction on the League’s Judicial Tribunals.”
