Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy could make a sensational return to AmaZulu if the club succeeds in their quest to lure him back following reports that he is one of their targets.
AmaZulu parted ways with coach Pablo Franco Martin on Monday and according to SABC, Usuthu have shortlisted a number of candidates with McCarthy among those on their wish list.

In a surprise twist, AmaZulu sacked their coach when McCarthy was travelling back home for punditry duties on Champions League matches on SuperSport TV this week and there have been calls to AmaZulu to hire him back.
McCarthy handled AmaZulu from December 2020 to March 2022 and led the club to second place in the PSL in the 2020-21 season, a club record, before guiding them to the CAF Champions League group stages.
Who else has been shortlisted?
However, he left in unclear circumstances but club president Sandile Zungu appears ready to patch up things with South Africa’s leading scorer.
However, whether McCarthy will be ready to return to the club remains to be seen after spending the last two seasons working at Manchester United as their attacking coach and also expressed a desire to take on a bigger role.
The shortlist also includes South African tactician Morena Ramoreboli, who currently handles Botswana champions Jwaneng Galaxy, Bradley Carnell, who left MLS club St Louis FC in July, ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter as well as Muhsin Ertugral, who also managed Amakhosi, Orlando Pirates, Ajax Cape Town, Maritzburg United and Golden Arrows.
