After navigating a period of legal contention, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has finally officially confirmed the comprehensive details for the Motsepe Foundation Championship Trophy handover ceremony.
This comes as Durban City FC, having been crowned champions of the 2024/25 season, earned their deserved promotion to the Betway Premiership.
The usual trophy presentation on the final day of the season had been notably delayed, a decision the PSL announced in May, pending the resolution of a significant case.
This case originated with JDR Stars lodging a protest against the eligibility of Sazi Magawana, an appeal later joined by Cape Town Spurs.
Both clubs alleged that Magawana was improperly registered by Durban City after his transfer from Marumo Gallants, arguing his clearance should have come from Leruma United, who had acquired Gallants' status.
However, both the PSL DRC and the SAFA arbitration panels ultimately dismissed their claims, paving the way for the League's announcement on Monday to proceed with handing the trophy to Durban City.

“The Premier Soccer League (PSL), in partnership with the Motsepe Foundation, will host the official trophy handover ceremony to crown Durban City Football Club as the 2024/25 champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship champions on Tuesday, 10 June 2025,” the PSL announced via a statement.
“The ceremony will be broadcast LIVE on the SuperSport PSL Channel (202) from 17h00.”
Additionally, despite this, Cape Town Spurs have launched a High Court challenge against Hilton Epstein SC's ruling, which favored Durban City and Sazi Magawana.
The case, involving the PSL, SAFA, and all Championship teams, is set for June 17 in Johannesburg.
