Soweto Giants Kaizer Chiefs were fined R150,000 by the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee after recent crowd trouble.
A section of the Glamour Boys fans hurled objects against the officials in the Carling Knockout quarter-final game against Mamelodi Sundowns, a fixture Amakhosi lost 4-0.
The majority of South Africans welcomed the punishment but felt the fine was too low and much was needed to curb hooliganism from the Premier Soccer League. Have a look at their arguments.
When will PSL hand Chiefs a deserved punishment?
PSL will never hit Kaizer Chiefs with a stadium ban, the country will suffer financially – Londie London
Could you deduct Chiefs at least 7 points? I'm telling you they will behave next time. We need peace in this country and Chiefs fans are against that which is funny because their slogan is ‘love and peace' – Qunta Dinwa
When will the PSL give Chiefs the deserved punishment? Those hooligans repeat the same offense over and over again for even a year. Zola Majavu must be a Chiefs fan; how many times have those hooligans behaved like that yet they are always fined? – Koketso Dongo Mafereka
That is too little for a big football club such as Kaizer Chiefs. At least if they could have been fined 1 million Rand, it could have been just half of the gift Dr. Motaung senior received from Dr. Khoza – Nathan Kamuthuleni Tembo
No stress, the fine will come from that R2 million the chairman received – Tumelo Silas Motsie
Learn to behave when defeated
When are officials going to be fined? Or punished? They are the cause of this, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are big clubs that should not lose because of stupid officials. We need VAR – Lindah Lindokuhle Ngidi
PSL DC should also fine their entire fan base for believing that filling up stadiums is equivalent to winning trophies – Moruti Moteku Thutloa
This fine is not enough, on top of that, they should ban the fans from the stadium for four games – Xolani Khumalo
We should learn to behave when we are been defeated – MacDuff Mojalefa Oliphant
Bucs also paid that amount when they got beaten by Magesi so I am not surprised – Mlungisi Amahle Emmanuel Basi
