PSL side set to sack ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach after four league matches

Sekhukhune United and head coach Cedric Kaze are reportedly set to part ways just four matches into the new Premier Soccer League season.

Sources indicate that escalating tensions over the club’s daily football operations have pushed the relationship to a breaking point.

It is understood that both the club and the coach are unhappy with the current working arrangement, citing fundamental disagreements on how the technical department is managed and key footballing decisions are made.

Why ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach is not happy

While three consecutive losses to Orlando Pirates, two in the MTN8 semi-finals and a recent league defeat, have reportedly worsened the situation, they are not believed to be the primary cause for the likely split.

According to SABC Sport, Kaze had requested additional resources to bolster his technical team, but these requests have not yet been granted by the club’s management.

Sources close to the club reveal that several technical review meetings since the season began have been marked by heated exchanges. The relationship between Kaze and the club’s hierarchy has deteriorated, with both parties seemingly pulling in opposite directions.

Sekhukhune exploring internal solutions

Kaze joined Sekhukhune on a one-year contract with an option to extend for another two years. However, there is now a strong indication that the former Kaizer Chiefs coach’s tenure will be cut short, well before his contract expires in June 2027.

In the event of Kaze’s departure, Paulus Masehe and Papi Zothwane are considered potential candidates to take over as interim coaches. It is worth noting that both were appointed by the club, not by Kaze, though he did not object to their appointments upon his arrival.

Sekhukhune United are scheduled to face TS Galaxy at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Since taking charge, Kaze has overseen seven matches in total, winning two in the league and losing as many while he secured an MTN8 quarter-final win before losing home and away in the semi-final to Orlando Pirates.
