Two-time Asian Champions League winner Esteghlal recently appointed celebrated South African tactician Pitso Mosimane to guide his team to the top.
The 60-year-old has been without a team for the last six months after parting ways with Abha after failing to keep them in the Saudi Pro League.
Esteghlal are currently placed 11th on the table of 16 teams after seven matches owing to their inconsistent start.
“Their last trophy was won in 2022, and we can believe their fans are hungry for glory once again. The challenge that awaits us is steep, but it is our privilege to lead such a prolific club. I would like to thank the club leadership for placing their trust in us. We are ready to get to work,” Mosimane stated after sealing the deal.
How much will Pitso Mosimane earn?
Mosimane is not new to Gulf football; ‘Jingles’ handled Al Ahly Jeddah, leading them to promotion back to the Saudi Pro League in the 2022-23 season.
He then took over Al Wehda in the UAE and worked at Abha, back in Saudi Arabia, failing to save them from relegation before leaving in June.
According to Eghtesad Azad website, Mosimane and his technical team agreed to an initial $900,000 (about R15 million) a year, with bonuses that could reach 20% of the aforementioned salary.
It is interesting to see if the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach will take the club to greater heights. Having excelled in the majority of his teams, the South African has a chance of helping Esteghlal get their status back.
