Revealed: Millions Kaizer Chiefs received for Yusuf Maart’s transfer to Austria

Kaizer Chiefs reportedly received a tidy sum for the transfer of former captain Yusuf Maart to Austrian side SV Ried.

Maart left Chiefs to join SV Ried in July after three years at Naturena, where he became the club captain, and led them to last season’s Nedbank Cup, the club’s first trophy in 10 years.

The 29-year-old had come to the end of his contract in June but Chiefs triggered the one-year extension which turned out to be a great move as the player earned them a transfer fee when the Austrian club came knocking.

One month since his move, it has now been revealed how much Chiefs pocketed from the transfer of Maart to the newly-promoted Austrian Bundesliga side.

According to FARPost, Chiefs received €130,000 (R2.6 million) from the transfer of Maart to SV Ried, recovering nearly half of the R6 million they paid Sekhukhune United for him in 2022.

The outlet also reports that Babina Noko are entitled to around €26,000 [R530,000] from the fee as they had inserted a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the deal when they sold the midfielder to Chiefs.

Maart has played five matches for SV Ried so far, starting three, all in the league, while he has come off the bench twice in cup games.

The midfielder will hope to continue his fine run for the club, who have played four league matches so far, winning one, drawing another and losing two to stay eighth on the 12-team table.

Maart signed a two-year contract with SV Ried, with the option to extend for another one, linking up with the club after three years at Chiefs where he played 95 matches, scoring seven goals while providing eight assists.
