Richards Bay FC have provided a major update on their goalkeeper, Salim Magoola, who has been subject to significant transfer interest from Kaizer Chiefs since last season.
Last year, the Natal Rich Boyz reportedly offered goalkeeper Salim Magoola to Kaizer Chiefs, likely due to his expiring contract in a year. However, Kaizer Chiefs rejected the offer.
However, due to their struggles in goal for quite some time now, Kaizer Chiefs rekindled their interest in Magoola, hoping to solidify their goalkeeping department.
They currently have Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Peterson, Karabo Molefe and Itumeleng Khune whose future hangs in balance with his contract having expired.
Richards Bay have announced that the 29-year-old ‘keeper has penned a new three-year deal to keep him until 2027 at the club.
RICHARDS BAY MAKE ANNOUNCEMENT ON SALIM MAGOOLA
“Richards Bay football club would like to congratulate Salim Magoola on signing a three year contract extension with the club,” the club announced on its social media platforms.
Magoola, having arrived at the Natal Rich Boyz in July 2022, has accumulated 59 appearances, keeping 22 clean sheets and conceding 58 goals.
He has also been linked with SuperSport United who are desperately looking for a goalkeeper following the exit of Ricardo Goss who returned to his parent club Mamelodi Sundowns.
There’s also uncertainty over the future of Washington Arubi, whose contract has expired. They wanted the Ugandan international to take over ahead of the new season.
MAGOOLA, NOT THE ONLY GOALKEEPER LINKED WITH CHIEFS
Meanwhile, Magoola hasn’t been the only goal-minder linked with Amakhosi as they were recently reported to have joined the race with SuperSport to acquire AmaTuks goalkeeper Edward Maova.
Maova has been the regular feature for the Motsepe Foundation Championship side having joined the club at the beginning of season from Pretoria Callies.
His contract with the Tshwane-based club was set to expire in June, however, AmaTuks have triggered their one year option on him, the player’s agent Charles Domingos told FARPost.
Now, Amakhosi would have to fork out whatever amount of money is demanded by University of Pretoria if they still want the services of the Namibian international.
Moreover, Chiefs also made an offer for Chippa United for Stanley Nwabali, however, it was rejected. The Soweto giants are understandably still interested in bringing the Super Eagles goalkeeper to Naturena.
It remains to be seen whether they make another offer with the PSL Transfer window having officially opened.
