Former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Alton Meiring has tragically lost his life after being fatally stabbed on Sunday.
Meiring, who was 48 years old at the time of his death, had retired over a decade ago and subsequently focused on coaching at the junior level.
The Cape Town-born ex-forward played for nine top-flight teams in South African football.
These teams include AmaZulu FC , Moroka Swallows, Sundowns, Cape Town Spurs, Manning Rangers, Jomo Cosmos, Mother City, Golden Arrows, and Platinum Stars.
As reported by Opta Jabu, Meiring holds the notable distinction of being the player who scored in the league for the most different clubs throughout his career.
He managed to score for all nine teams he played for, while Gabadinho Mhango, Mabhuti Khenyeza, Mxolisi Macuphu, Katlego Mashego, Collins Mbesuma, and Siphelele Mthembu follow closely behind, each having scored for seven different clubs in the South African top flight.
At the time of his passing, Meiring was coaching an amateur football club, Luso Africa, in Johannesburg, which confirmed the news of his death on Sunday.
