Since joining Al Ahly from Orlando Pirates a couple of weeks ago, a host of Bucs players have been heavily linked with a move to Egypt.
Monnapule Saleng, Relebohile Mofokeng, and Mbekezeli Mbokazi are some of the names that have been associated with a new challenge with the Red Devils. The newly crowned Egyptian Premier Soccer League champions are expected to bring in several faces in preparations for the Fifa Club World Cup that will be played in the United States from June 14 to July 13.
Mahmoud Trezeguet, Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Hamdi Fathy, and Mohamed Seha are some of the new faces that have been brought in by the Spaniard, while Aliou Dieng has returned after his loan spell at Al-Kholood.
‘I do not want to rush into looking for new deals'
In his recent interview on Al Ahly TV, Riveiro insisted he has not requested the club to sign any Buccaneers players as speculated by the media. He added that his main job right now is to prepare the team for the global competition.
“I have not requested the inclusion of any player from Orlando Pirates to Al Ahly out of respect for them, as I respect the club,” he stated.
“At the moment, I do not want to rush into looking for new deals. Rather, I am focusing on preparing for the Club World Cup, after which we will accurately determine our needs,” Riveiro concluded.
All 32 teams playing in the Club World Cup competition have been given 10 days – from June 1 to 10, to sign players they feel will help them deliver.
The Club of the Century has been placed in Group A with the first game coming on June 15 against Inter Miami at the Hard Rock Stadium.
