Riveiro ‘realistic’ Pirates have what it takes to win a quadruple – ‘Bucs want to be number one in every competition’

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is convinced his team has what it takes to win a quadruple in the ongoing campaign.

The Sea Robbers started the season with the MTN8 title, their third in a row which has never been achieved by any team in the country. They are also in the race for the Premier Soccer League despite being 16 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who are on 55 points after playing  21 matches, four more than the Buccaneers.

Bucs are also in the quarter-final of the Caf Champions League where they are scheduled to play Algerian outfit MC Alger.

On Saturday, the Nedbank Cup defending champions will be away at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, facing SuperSport United in the last eight. The Spaniard has explained the possibility of going all the way in all those competitions.

‘Orlando Pirates are realistic'

“It’s very important for us to give our best in each and every competition that we participate in and particularly as a group, we have the ambition, since day one, to play every final, to play every last game of the competition with the possibility to be number one in every competition we’re in,” he told the media.

“We’re realistic, we know the difficulty of being there in the last game of every competition but so far I think in this kind of scenario we did a good job as a team, as a club and obviously on Saturday, 3 o’clock we go with the intention to be better than SuperSport and deserve to be in the semi-finals.

“If I’m not wrong, we’re still in the quarter-final, so to start talking about the final or trophy or the [league] championship, it’s still too early, we know how difficult it will be on Saturday, and again, we will try to be on the level that kind of game will ask for.”

The Saturday game will be played from 15.00h.
