Rulani Mokwena lands new coaching job in North Africa

Rulani Mokwena has landed a new job just hours after it was revealed that he was in talks with an Algerian club.

Mokwena has been without a job after leaving Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in May and has been linked to a number of teams, including Orlando Pirates, before Abdeslam Ouaddou was appointed.

CAF Champions League winners Pyramids had also held talks with the 38-year-old as well as Egyptian giants Zamalek, the latter which he turned down after learning that his mentor Pitso Mosimane was also shortlisted.

Reports on Sunday said Mokwena had been contacted by Siwelele FC to become their coach but he has reportedly turned them down as he was keen on a club that competes in the CAF Champions League.

Which club has hired Rulani Mokwena?

Now, Mokwena has been appointed as the new head coach of Algerian giants MC Alger after signing a two-year contract.

According to latest reports, the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach will be joined in Algeria by his backroom staff when he completes the formalities of his deal.

Mokwena had taken his time before taking his next job and has opted for the nine-time Algerian champions, who won the title last season, and were looking for a new coach following the departure of Khaled Ben Yahia.

MC Alger will provide him with Champions League football and also put him on a collision course with one of his nemesis Sead Ramovic who handles CR Belouizdad.
