Egyptian Premier League club Pyramids FC has reportedly targeted South African coach Rulani Mokwena as a potential new signing, according to emerging reports.
Mokwena is believed to be leaving Libyan club Al Ittihad SC, where he spent only four months. He had joined the Tripoli-based team in March of this year following a successful stint with MC Alger in Algeria.
During his time in Algeria, Mokwena guided MC Alger to the top of the league standings before making the move to what was described as a major project in Libya.

According to Soccer Laduma the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has travelled from Libya to Cairo to discuss a potential move to big-spending Pyramids FC.
Pyramids favoutrites to land Mokwena
“There has been contact. Both parties are talking,” a source revealed to the outlet. “There is a possibility that Mokwena could move to Pyramids very soon.”
If the deal materialises, Mokwena would follow in the footsteps of fellow South African coach Pitso Mosimane, who worked in Egypt.

Mosimane achieved historic success with Al Ahly, leading the club to consecutive CAF Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021 before leaving in 2022, having lost the final of the continental competition to Wydad Athletic Club.
Multiple reports suggest Mokwena is leaving Al Ittihad after what has been described as an underwhelming end to the season, having joined with much promise.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach was appointed in March while the team was undefeated and leading the league. However, the club’s fortunes took a downturn during the crucial playoff stage of the season.

Why is Rulani leaving Libyan outfit?
After finishing the regular season with three wins and a draw under his guidance, Al Ittihad struggled in the playoffs. A record of two wins, two draws, and one loss saw them fall out of contention for a spot in the CAF inter-club competitions.
The team’s troubles were compounded by a 2-0 defeat to arch-rivals Al-Ahli Tripoli in the Libyan Cup final, a result that added pressure on Mokwena, casting doubts over his future.

Prior to his move to Libya, Mokwena had a successful stint with MC Alger, where he won the Algerian Super Cup. He left the team while they were comfortably leading the Algerian Ligue 1, a title they would go on to secure after his departure.
Reports from Libya suggest Mokwena and Al Ittihad agreed to mutually part ways following the disappointing conclusion to the 2025/26 campaign.
