SuperSport United have finally confirmed the signing of Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic on a one-and-a-half-year deal.
Nurkovic has been on the radar of SuperSport since September following his departure from TS Galaxy and Matsatsantsa took their time before roping him in, given he was a free agent.
The former Kaizer Chiefs forward will add firepower to what has been a blunt SuperSport attack that has managed just three goals in nine matches across all competitions so far this season.
Nurkovic scored 10 goals, largely from the bench at Galaxy last season, and coach Gavin Hunt will be delighted to have him even though he will not help them this year as his involvement will be delayed until January as he awaits a work permit.
What has been said about Nurkovic?
“I am so happy and grateful to be at a wonderful and amazing club like SuperSport United FC. I am very much looking forward to my first training session at the club, getting to meet my new teammates and getting to work,” Nurkovic said upon his unveiling.
SuperSport CEO Stanley Matthews believes the striker will be a success as he fits into the team’s style of play.
“Samir is a proven number 9 target man with a good track record and who will fit in well with our style of play, which looks to get crosses in from wide areas and to capitalize on set pieces,” said Matthews.
Nurkovic has scored over 30 goals in his five-year stay in South Africa but never played a match at Royal AM where he is embroiled in a court case that landed the club a FIFA ban.
