The 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season is close to hitting the halfway mark, as clubs push to meet their objectives.
Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates will seemingly go head-to-head in the race for the championship. The defending champions are currently on top of the table with 27 points from 10 games, while Bucs come second with three points having played nine matches.
It seems Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping to end the campaign inside the top four if their inconsistent start is anything to consider.
The relegation race will be tough, as Royal AM, Magesi and Richards Bay hope to get together their acts in the new year. What are the fans and clubs wishing for this Christmas Eve?
Magesi FC
Imagine beating the likes of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns to the Carling Knockout crown, only to suffer Cape Town Spurs' fate?
After the resignation of coach Clinton Larsen, Dikwena tsa Meetse fans wish immediate former Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi could join them alongside Romain Folz to help them evade the axe.
AmaZulu, Royal AM, Richards Bay
Both teams have not started the ongoing campaign well. Only three points separate Magesi, who are at the bottom of the table, and Usuthu, who are 13th.
Their greatest wish is to get out of the danger zone and avoid an uncertain future in South Africa top flight football.
Marumo Gallants
Imagine getting beaten 8-1 a day to Christmas! It is the worst-ever gift to the fans. Gallants players and their coach Dan Malesela wish it could have been a nightmare.
Unfortunately, it is true, Orlando Pirates put eight past them!
Cape Town City, Cape Town City, TS Galaxy and Golden Arrows
Not much from the above teams, the only gift they can think of currently is a place in the top eight by the end of the season.
Polokwane City, Stellenbosch, SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United
These teams have the potential to finish inside the top-four bracket! What else can they ask from Santa?
Mamelodi Sundowns
A majority of Masandawana fans wanted Mngqithi out, and their wish was granted and they now have Miguel Cardoso who has won the last three matches in all competitions.
The Ronwen Williams red card a day before Christmas in the win against AmaZulu was not anticipated; their main wish is to have that decision reversed!
Kaizer Chiefs
Now imagine the wishes from Amakhosi fans. They want their first clean sheet this season, new striker, and hope they can challenge Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns for the PSL crown!
Orlando Pirates
Imagine beating a team 8-1 only for your direct rival – with a man less, to score in the stoppages to spoil your chance of topping the table on Christmas!
If only AmaZulu could get that 1-0 win over Masandawana… but Bucs can still finish the year top of the PLS table if Richards Bay beat Sundowns and they beat Magesi in the final fixtures of the month.
